Functionalized Polymeric Membranes for CO2 Capture
author
Abstract:
Reducing CO2 emission and lowering the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has quickly become one of the most urgent environmental issues. While a variety of technologies and methods have been developed, the separation of CO2 from gas streams is still a critical issue. Apart from establishing new techniques, the exploration of membrane materials with high separation performance and low capital cost are of paramount importance. Functionalized polymers hold great potential as membrane materials in gas separation. In this paper, the research progress in functionalized polymers membrane materials for membrane-based high CO2 permselectivities separations that are directly related to CO2 capture were reviewed.

full textEffect of amine structure on CO2 capture by polymeric membranes
Poly(amidoamine)s (PAMAMs) incorporated into a cross-linked poly(ethylene glycol) exhibited excellent CO2 separation properties over H2. However, the CO2 permeability should be increased for practical applications. Monoethanolamine (MEA) used as a CO2 determining agent in the current CO2 capture technology at demonstration scale was readily immobilized in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix by sol...
full textFunctionalized and Electrospun Polymeric Materials as High-Performance Membranes for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell: A Review
Proton exchange membranes (PEM) for a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) have main drawbacks which are methanol permeability, reduced proton conductivity and the cost of the membrane. This paper reviews different polymeric materials such as fluorinated, non-fluorinated, acid-base complex, and composite membranes for DMFC. Currently, nonfluorinated membranes gain a lot of atte...
full textOpen diamondoid amino-functionalized MOFs for CO2 capture.
Solvent-induced chiral single-crystal to achiral single-crystal structural transformation is presented by two isomeric amino-functionalized metal-organic frameworks with 2-fold interpenetrating diamond topology, and the achiral form has high CO(2) uptake capacity.
full textTuning microcavities in thermally rearranged polymer membranes for CO2 capture.
Microporous materials have a great importance in catalysis, delivery, storage and separation in terms of their performance and efficiency. Most microporous materials are comprised of inorganic frameworks, while thermally rearranged (TR) polymers are a microporous organic polymer which is tuned to optimize the cavity sizes and distribution for difficult separation applications. The sub-nano size...
full textNovel ZIF-300 Mixed-Matrix Membranes for Efficient CO2 Capture.
Because of the high separation performance and easy preparation, mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) consisting of metal-organic frameworks have received much attention. In this article, we report a novel ZIF-300/PEBA MMM consisting of zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-300) crystals and polyether block amide (PEBA) matrix. The ZIF-300 crystal size was effectively reduced by optimizing the hydrotherm...
